Jurion

Jurion is the Wolters Kluwer publishing company's database for German legal materials. It is in German only.

Full access to this database requires a subscription. However, limited access to certain primary sources (including federal legislative materials and decisions of the highest federal courts), along with a citator service, is available for free, but you must register.

Navigation
Once you have created a user account and logged in, the easiest way to access primary materials is to click the Meine Inhalte (my contents) tab at the top of the screen. Then, click the JURION Basis (kostenfrei) link.

Click the link to the item you want to search or browse (for example, Bundesrecht, which is a collection of federal statutes, regulations, and ordinances). You can also search all of your available content using the search box at the top of the screen.

Research
Assume that you are researching a particular statute, such as the Strafvollzugsgesetz (criminal punishment act). On the main page of this statute, in addition to the full-text of the statute currently in force, you can view the following materials:

  • Bibliografie (citation information for the statute)
  • Kommentiering dieser Norm (list of important statutory commentaries, although full-text access to commentaries is not available in the free version)
  • Weitere Rechtsstände (earlier versions of the statutory text, organized chronologically with the most recent amendment date first, including the option to compare two different versions)
  • Zitierungen (citing references in other legislative materials, in case law, and in secondary sources (commentaries, handbooks, journals))

The options are designated by dark gray text on the far right side of the screen, as shown below. The last of these options, Zitierung, is located beneath the statutory text.
