# Niederlande: Provinzflaggen

DRENTHE  
Weiß und Rot sind die Farben der Erzbischöfe von Utrecht, ehemalige Herrscher von Drenthe. Das schwarze Schloss und die Sterne erinnern an den Aufstand von Coevorden gegen den Erzbischof.

FLEVOLAND  
Blau steht für das Ijsselmeer, aus dem die Provinz zurückerobert wurde. Grün steht für Vegetation und Gelb für die Maisfelder. Die Lilie erinnert an Lely, den Ingenieur des Eklamationsprojekts.

FRIESLAND  
Die Flagge ist der der friesischen Könige aus dem 15. Jahrhundert nachempfunden. Die Farben entsprechen denen der niederländischen Flagge. Die Streifen und Blumen repräsentieren die sieben Bezirke Frieslands.

GELDERLAND  
Im Jahr 1371 wurden die Herzogtümer Gelre und Gulik vereint und vereinten ihre Waffen. Das neue Wappen war blau, gelb und schwarz, die Farben, die auch auf der 1953 gehissten Flagge vorkommen.

GRONINGEN  
Die 1950 eingeführte Flagge kombiniert Grün und Weiß der Stadt Groningen, umgeben von Rot, Weiß und Blau Ommelands und spiegelt so die Lage der Stadt wider.

LIMBURG  
Der rote Löwe stammt aus dem Wappen von Limburg. Weiß und Gelb stammen aus lokalen Wappen, während der schmale blaue Streifen für den Fluss Maas steht, der die Provinz durchquert.

NORTH BRABANT  
Das 1959 übernommene Design stammt aus Antwerpen, wo rot-weiß karierte Wappen beliebt waren. Es war seit dem 17. Jahrhundert mit der Gegend verbunden.

NORTH HOLLAND  
Diese 1958 eingeführte Flagge vereint die Farben Hollands; Gelb und Rot, mit Blau und Gelb von Westfriesland. Gelb, die übliche Farbe, steht oben.
