Geboren als [ältester](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/aeltester/) Sohn von Flavius Josephus Valentinus (Valentinstag) und Enkel von Flavius Josephus, [auch](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/auch/) bekannt als Lukas, der Mitbegründer der später als „Boethusianismus“ bezeichneten Fälschungsbewegung.  
Als er geboren wurde, soll [sein](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/sein/) Vater bereits seine berühmte Katechetische Schule von [Alexandria](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/alexandria/) gegründet haben, die erste gnostische Schule, an der sich die besten Schüler der Welt versammelten, um die [Geheimnisse](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/geheimnisse/) der Nazarener und die wahren [Evangelien](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/evangelien/) zu verstehen von Hesus ([Jesus](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/jesus/)) und den Aposteln. (Die Rolle, [Geschichte](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/geschichte/) und [Arbeit](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/arbeit/) dieser Schule veränderte sich später vollständig in der christlichen [Geschichte](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/geschichte/)).  
115 zerstörte ein schweres [Erdbeben](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/erdbeben/) die meisten großen Städte in Syrien und im Libanon und zerstörte Antiochia und [Apameia](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/apameia/) gänzlich. Die boethusischen Flüchtlinge wanderten dann nach Kyrene, Zypern und Korinth aus.  
Der Hohepriester Lucius (Lukuas) von [Cyrene](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/cyrene/), ein fanatischer Boethusianer und [ältester](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/aeltester/) Sohn des Josephus (Hl. Lukas) aus erster [Ehe](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/ehe/), erklärte sich dann zu diesem „Zeichen Gottes“ als neuer Messias und stellte prompt eine rasende Miliz auf jeden letzten [Mann](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/mann/), jede letzte [Frau](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/frau/) und jedes letzte [Kind](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/kind/) griechischer Herkunft wegen seines Hasses auf seine Halbbrüder und der zweiten [Ehe](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/ehe/) seines Vaters und der Ablehnung des Boethusianismus zu töten.  
Der junge Clemens wurde mit seiner [Familie](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/familie/) nach Zypern gebracht, um dem mörderischen Amoklauf seiner Verwandten zu entkommen, dann neben Griechenland und schließlich der Sicherheit Roms.  
Als Clemens volljährig war, erhielt er die Erlaubnis seines Vaters, nach [Alexandria](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/alexandria/) zurückzukehren und beim Wiederaufbau der Katechetischen Schule mitzuwirken und deren zweiter Leiter zu werden.  
Clemens hatte die gleiche familiäre Brillanz wie [sein](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/sein/) Großvater und fiel in den letzten Jahren mit seinem Vater aus, als er nach Wegen suchte, eine [Einheit](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/einheit/) zwischen der Boethusschen [Philosophie](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/philosophie/) Jesu und den gnostischen [Evangelien](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/evangelien/) zu [finden](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/finden/). Als [sein](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/sein/) Vater 153 starb, widmete Clemens dieser [Aufgabe](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/aufgabe/) seine [Zeit](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/zeit/).  
Die Trilogie, in die Clements Hauptverbliebene eingehen, besteht aus folgenden Elementen:  
der Protrepticus („Ermahnung an die [Griechen](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/griechen/)“) der Pädagogus („Ausbilder“) der Stromata („Verschiedenes“)  
Bis 195 hatte Clemens Einfluss durch die Boethusianische [Botschaft](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/botschaft/) die Kerntheologie des Gnostizismus zunehmend entfernt und durch ein neues Modell ersetzt. Clemens schien [auch](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/auch/) viele der im Boethusianismus (orthodoxes [Christentum](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/christentum/)) verankerten [Vorurteile](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/vorurteile/) aufgegriffen zu haben.  
Als Victor unter Kaiser Septimus Severus als erster Nichtkaiser die Rolle des Pontifex [Maximus](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/maximus/) übernahm, lehnte Clemens mit Nachdruck Latein als offizielle [Sprache](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/sprache/) der heidnischen [Anbetung](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/anbetung/) [ab](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/ab/), da alle [Evangelien](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/evangelien/) ursprünglich verfasst worden waren auf [Griechisch](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/griechisch/) von den Sadduzäer-Hohepriestern und [allen](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/allen/) gnostischen [Evangelien](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/evangelien/), die ursprünglich [auch](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/auch/) auf [Griechisch](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/griechisch/) waren.  
Möglicherweise ist er der wahre Verfasser von Briefen, in denen die von Pontifex [Maximus](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/maximus/) Victor bis 197/198 angeforderten Verfolgungen durch Severus beschrieben werden, nachdem seine behauptete [Autorität](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/autoritaet/) abgelehnt worden war. In jedem [Fall](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/fall/) weist der Hinweis auf das [Wort](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/wort/) „[christian](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/christian/)“, ein [Wort](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/wort/), das erst [Konstantin](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/konstantin/) erfunden hat, auf einen erheblichen Bearbeitungsgrad hin.  
Clemens wurde von römischen Soldaten gefangen genommen und um 198 auf kaiserlichen Befehl hingerichtet. [Sein](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/sein/) Sohn [Origenes](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/origenes/) und seine Schüler flohen mit einer unbekannten [Anzahl](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/anzahl/) seiner Texte.
