[Amadeus](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/amadeus/) stammte aus einer der ältesten und mächtigsten Adelsfamilien Europas und wurde nach dem [Tod](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/tod/) seines Vaters in jungen Jahren zum Grafen von Savoyen ernannt.  
Im Jahr 1418 wurde er der älteste männliche Erbe dieser alten [Familie](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/familie/) und machte seine Position als Herzog von Savoyen ohne [Streit](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/streit/).  
Die [Wahl](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/wahl/) von [Papst](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/papst/) Eugen (1431-1447) und das [Ende](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/ende/) des Hundertjährigen Krieges zwischen den Anhängern des königlichen Hauses von Plantagenet und des königlichen Hauses von Valois für den französischen Thron erschwerten die Lage Savoyens und erhöhten den Druck, die [Politik](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/politik/) zu stärken Bindungen.  
Das Haus Savoyen scheint finanzielle und logistische Unterstützer des Hauses [Colonna](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/colonna/) und des Konzils von [Basel](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/basel/) während ihrer verschiedenen Kämpfe mit [Papst](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/papst/) Eugen gewesen zu [sein](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/sein/).  
[Ende](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/ende/) 1437 brach das Basler [Konzil](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/konzil/) seinen vorherigen Vertrag mit dem [Papst](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/papst/) und suchte seinen Rücktritt nach dem Blutvergießen bei der Rückeroberung des päpstlichen Staates und der Brutalität gegen die Colonna-Anhänger in [Rom](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/rom/).  
Eugene lehnte [ab](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/ab/) und exkommunizierte die Mitglieder des Rates. Als Reaktion darauf setzte das [Konzil](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/konzil/) Eugen im Juni 1439 und im November desselben Jahres mit Unterstützung der Könige von Deutschland und [Frankreich](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/frankreich/) als Ketzer [ab](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/ab/) und wählte [Amadeus](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/amadeus/) VIII., Den Herzog von Savoyen, zum [Papst](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/papst/) Felix V.  
1449 wurde ihm das [Papsttum](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/papsttum/) entzogen und zwei Jahre später starb er.  
**Die meisten bösen Verbrechen**  
Von moralischer Verkommenheit zum Zweck der Straffung des [internationalen](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/internationalen/) Sklavenhandels: (1442) Dass [Papst](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/papst/) Felix V. den päpstlichen Bullen Illius Qui (1442) herausgab, der den portugiesischen Sklavenhandel für Nichtchristen auf den Kanarischen Inseln im Austausch für gezahlte Gebühren billigte der [Vatikan](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/vatikan/) pro Sklave erfolgreich lebendig ausgeliefert. Diese Sklavenhändler mussten der katholischen [Kirche](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/kirche/) keine Lizenzgebühren für „beschädigte Fracht“ zahlen, als Sklaven auf dem Weg zu ihrem Ziel starben.  
Des Mordes (1440) Der französische Aristokrat Gilles de Rais wird hingerichtet, nachdem er sich zu Vorwürfen bekannt hat, die von Kirchenführern ausgearbeitet wurden, um seinen riesigen Reichtum zu beschlagnahmen.
