Zu keinem Zeitpunkt war er Christ oder Katholik. Alle gegenteiligen Geschichten, insbesondere die stark überarbeitete Fälschung Liber Pontificalis, wurden umgeschrieben, um sicherzustellen, dass der römische Kult seine Vorfahren als „legitime Päpste“ einschloss, als sie 1057 zum ersten Mal unter [Gregor](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/gregor/) VII.
