Sohn von Kenneth MacAlpin (Cináed mac Ailpín), der den vorletzten holly king of Scotland ([Alba](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/alba/)) ermordete, Holly King Causantín mac Cuiléain.  
Die [Geschichte](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/geschichte/) von Kenneth MacAlpin wurde längst durch [Fälschungen](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/faelschungen/) wie die Genologien und Geschichten von John of Fordun in den Mythos umgeschrieben.  
Nach dem [Tod](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/tod/) seines Vaters in der Schlacht von Clontarf im Jahr 1005 bestieg Malcolm den Thron, vermutlich in jungen Jahren. Aufgrund seiner grausamen und bösartigen Angriffe auf einheimische Schotten wurde er schnell „Malcolm the Destroyer“ genannt.  
Seine Regierungszeit ist geprägt von seiner [Besessenheit](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/besessenheit/), die letzten Überreste der Cuileain zu vernichten, die [Familie](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/familie/) Holly und die Königsfamilie, die seine [Familie](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/familie/) tötete. Es gelang ihm, Ruadrí von Moray, den jüngeren [Bruder](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/bruder/) des ermordeten Königs [Konstantin](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/konstantin/), zu töten, aber seine [Familie](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/familie/) konnte fliehen.  
In einigen seltenen Geschichten gibt es [Beweise](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/beweise/) dafür, dass Malcolm während der Regierungszeit von [Papst](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/papst/) Benedikt VIII. Nach [Rom](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/rom/) ging, um einen päpstlichen Segen zu erlangen, um seine [Familie](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/familie/) zu rechtmäßigen Erben von [Alba](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/alba/) zu machen.  
Im Jahr 1032 gelang es Malcolm, einen weiteren rechtmäßigen Thronfolger von [Alba](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/alba/) (Schottland), Findláech mac Ruadrí, Holly King of Moray, zu töten.  
Der rechtmäßige Erbe ging dann auf seinen Sohn Mac Bethad mac Findlaích über, besser bekannt als MacBeth, der den [Namen](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/namen/) Rí Deircc verdiente. Es war MacBeth, der der letzte Holly King von Schottland war und 1039 Donnchad mac Crínáin, den Sohn von Malcolm, besiegte.
