Wenceslaus wurde als Sohn von Karl IV., Dem heiligen römischen Kaiser des Hauses Luxemburg und [Anne](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/anne/) von Ĺ ?? widnica, geboren. Seinem Vater gelang es 1376, im [Alter](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/alter/) von 15 Jahren die [Wahl](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/wahl/) zum [König](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/koenig/) von Deutschland ([König](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/koenig/) der Römer) zu erreichen. Nach dem [Tod](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/tod/) seines Vaters wurde Wenceslaus 1378 [auch](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/auch/) [König](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/koenig/) von Böhmen.  
1400 überzeugte Rupert, Sohn des Ruper II., Kurfürst der Pfalz am Rhein des Hauses Wittelsbach, genug Kurfürsten, dass er bis August 1400 im Gegensatz zu [König](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/koenig/) Wenzel zum deutschen [König](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/koenig/) gekrönt wurde.
