Im Jahr 997 wurde Holly King Causantín mac Cuiléain, Sohn von Cuiléain mac Iduilb, Enkel von Ildulb mac Causantín, Urenkel von Causantín mac Áeda, vom Befehlshaber der königlichen Garde, Kenneth MacAlpin, ermordet.  
Máire Sechnaill Sohn von Domnaill von der Clann Cholmáin der südlichen Uí Néill von [Irland](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/irland/) und [sein](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/sein/) Verwandter von ihm.

Um 1002 erklärte sich Kenneth MacAlpin zum Kaiser der [Kelten](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/kelten/). Der nördliche Uí Néill lehnte seine Behauptung [ab](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/ab/) und [König](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/koenig/) Kenneth MacAlpin Im Jahr 1005 folgte die Schlacht von Clontarf, bei der [König](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/koenig/) Kenneth getötet wurde.  
Die [Geschichte](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/geschichte/) seines Todes und seiner kurzen Regierungszeit als Kaiser wurde später wiedergeboren, als Muircheartach Ua Briain später als Brian Boru wiedergeboren wurde, um seinen [Anspruch](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/anspruch/) auf das Hohe Königtum zu stärken.  
Nach seinem [Tod](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/tod/) im Kampf wurde Kenneth von seinem Sohn Máel Coluim mac Cináeda, [auch](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/auch/) bekannt als Malcolm der Zerstörer, abgelöst. 1032 ermordete Malcolm Findláech mac Ruadrí, den [König](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/koenig/) von Moray und rechtmäßigen Thronfolger von [Alba](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/alba/) (Schottland). Kenneths Tochter Máel Muire heiratete zwei wichtige irische Könige der Uí Néill. Ihr erster Ehemann war Aed Finliath vom Cenél nEógain.
