# H. Priest Caiaphas

</div>Joseph Caiaphas, manchmal als Cantherus geschrieben, war einer der Söhne des Hohepriesters Simon Boethus (25-6 v. Chr.).  
Kaiphas ‚Amtszeit wurde vom jüdischen [Historiker](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/historiker/) Josephus aus dem ersten Jahrhundert aufgezeichnet. Er wurde im Jahre 18CE vom römischen Prokurator ernannt, der Pilatus, Valerius Gratus vorausging.  
Kaiphas hatte drei Söhne, die ihm [auch](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/auch/) als Hohepriester folgten, darunter Simon Kaiphas (41-43), Elionäus (43-44) und Josephus (44-46).  
Am bekanntesten als der Hohepriester in der christlichen [Schrift](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/schrift/) als der Hohepriester, der das Verfahren und die [Inquisition](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/inquisition/) Jesu durchführte, endete seine Amtszeit im Jahr 36 n. Chr., Als Pontius Pilatus in Ungnade nach [Rom](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/rom/) zurückgerufen und wegen der ihn umgebenden Episoden verbannt wurde die Kreuzigung des vollen römischen Bürgers [Jesus](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/jesus/) und des sarmatischen Messias Nethanel (Dositheus), der später seinen [Namen](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/namen/) in Saul-St.-Paul änderte.  
1990, zwei Meilen südlich des heutigen Jerusalems, wurden 12 Ossuare im Familiengrab eines „Kaiphas“ entdeckt. Ein Beinhaus war mit dem vollen [Namen](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/namen/) auf [Aramäisch](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/aramaeisch/) von „Joseph, Sohn von Kaiphas“, und ein zweites mit dem Familiennamen „Kaiphas“ beschriftet. Nach der Untersuchung wurden die [Knochen](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/knochen/) auf dem Ölberg wieder begraben.
