In seinen Teenagerjahren stach ein bitterer Cesare in [Gegenwart](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/gegenwart/) seines Vaters in den Kammerherrn, enthauptete ihn und durchbohrte seinen [Kopf](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/kopf/) an einer Stange mit der Aufschrift: „[Dies](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/dies/) ist der [Kopf](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/kopf/) meines Großvaters, der seine Tochter dem [Papst](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/papst/) prostituierte“ ( Eine [Geschichte](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/geschichte/) der Päpste, aa O., Kapitel [Alexander VI](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/alexander-vi/)). Cesare war Rodrigo Borjas Lieblingssohn. Als Cesare erst sieben Jahre [alt](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/alt/) war, bereitete [sein](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/sein/) Vater seinen Weg zum Kardinalskollegium vor, indem er ihn zum [Bischof](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/bischof/) ernannte, von dem er ein beachtliches Einkommen erhielt. Als Cesare achtzehn Jahre [alt](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/alt/) war, übertrug [sein](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/sein/) Vater als [Papst](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/papst/) [Alexander VI](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/alexander-vi/). Ihm die Kardinalität und ernannte ihn später zum Befehlshaber des vatikanischen Militärs bei seinen Bemühungen, die Kirchenstaaten zu erweitern. Cesare wuchs zu einem [Mann](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/mann/) mit klarem und starkem [Verstand](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/verstand/) heran, und [der Papst](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/der-papst/) unterstützte ihn bis zu seinem [Tod](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/tod/).  
[Botschafter](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/botschafter/) [sprechen](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/sprechen/) von Cesares Einführung einer Vielzahl schöner Kurtisanen in den [Vatikan](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/vatikan/), um Alexanders sexuelles Vergnügen in seinen späteren Jahren zu fördern. Burchard gibt uns erstaunliche Einzelheiten zu einer Gelegenheit, bei der [der Papst](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/der-papst/) eine Orgie im Papstpalast leitete:  
„Am Sonntagabend, dem 30. Oktober \[1501\], gab Don Cesare Borja seinem Vater im apostolischen Palast ein [Abendessen](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/abendessen/) mit 50 anständigen Prostituierten oder Kurtisanen in hellem Gewand, die nach dem [Essen](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/essen/) zuerst voll mit den Dienern und anderen dort tanzten angezogen und dann nackt.  
„Nach dem [Abendessen](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/abendessen/) wurden Leuchter mit angezündeten Kerzen auf den Boden gestellt und Kastanien herumgestreut, die die Prostituierten nackt auf Händen und Knien mit dem [Mund](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/mund/) aufheben mussten, als sie zwischen den Leuchtern hin und her krochen.  
1497 ließ Cesare Borja seinen [Bruder](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/bruder/) Giovanni aus [Eifersucht](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/eifersucht/) ermorden und organisierte 1500 die Ermordung von Lucrezias Ehemann Alfonso von [Aragon](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/aragon/), weil er wollte, dass sie ein Bündnis von größerem politischen Vorteil abschloss.  
Giovanni „… wurde mit durchgeschnittener Kehle aus dem Tiber gefischt… \[Alexander\] nahm es als Warnung vom [Himmel](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/himmel/), um Buße zu tun, und niemand fühlte es schärfer als [der Papst](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/der-papst/) [selbst](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/selbst/). Er sprach vom Rücktritt und erklärte seine Entschlossenheit, die Reform der [Kirche](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/kirche/) „in [Kopf](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/kopf/) und Gliedern“ in Gang zu setzen, nach der die Welt so lange gerufen hatte ([Catholic](http://cloud-zma.gleeze.com/catholicencyclopedia/glossary/catholic/) Encyclopedia, XIV, 32, 33).
